Wizards Are Real are a Minneapolis-based psych-jazz quartet featuring instruments rarely found on Nowlikephotographs playlists – pedal steel, and even less commonly, baritone and tenor saxophones. However, do not be fooled – Wizards Are Real do not play heady, modern free jazz; their self-titled record is rhythmically accessible, melodically pleasing, and simply gets the toes grooving. Featuring a few tracks previously recorded during a pair of Nowlikephotographs live sessions, including “Falconry” and “Stay Golden” – which features clever sax and pedal steel interplay – the record swaggers and sways through its ten tracks in just under 33 minutes. A local gem for fans of jazz and instrumental rock alike, Wizards Are Real will be officially releasing their album on March 4th at Cause Spirits & Sound Bar.
