Official Site of Year Of No Light
“Ausserwelt” begins with a brooding crescendo building up to a wall of sound that hits you as all the light leaves this plane and you are consumed by the pitch black sludge shoegaze soundscape that is ‘Year of no Light’s’ sophomore full-length release. Recorded in an old secluded theater that echoes every minute string resonating or somber drum thump, the album is built upon rich guitar harmonies layered with distortion, and bursts with tribal drum rhythms. As your eyes adjust to the dark you will begin to absorb the first two tracks, which are best comprehended as one epic masterpiece entitled ‘Perséphone’, and you will likely not see a glimpse of light before the dark crushing tones of ‘Hiérophante’. The final piece called ‘Abbesse’ approaches at a slower pace but that doesn’t mean it will go easy on you. As the begins music slowly fades away and you are blinded by the sudden presence of light, you may realize that the dark is nothing to be afraid of.
