The Grasshopper Lies Heavy – Every Man For Himself and God Against All

THE GRASSHOPPER LIES HEAVY ON MYSPACE

It is useful, when trying to come up with 100 or so words to write about The Grasshopper Lies Heavy, to imagine a madman falling down a bottomless pit.  Oh yeah, and he’s got a chainsaw too.  “Part I” leads the album, after a playful nod to their last release Gun, by riling up that two-stroke motor and spiraling downwards in to the abyss.  By “Part III,” lack of light, fresh air, and an ability to orient himself, the madman’s mind begins frothing over like so much psychological jetsam.  The conclusion of Every Man For Himself and God Against All, “Part V,” is ambiguous.  Is he trapped plummeting into inky blackness forever, or does he lie crumpled and broken on the unexpected floor?  You be the judge.
