The silhouettes of tree boughs, weaving through the curling fabric of a cloud, all peppered with uncountable winking stars – the cover of Slow Six’s 3rd full-length, Tomorrow Becomes You, illustrates the virtues of album: cohesion, modest grandeur, and complexity. Christopher Tignor, headman and one violinist of the group, seems to overreach his bandmates in closer “These Rivers Between Us,” but a reprimanding wall of guitar and percussion balances all of the song’s components and ultimately transforms Tignor’s violin part into a more intricate and subtle accompaniment. Having downsized since 2007′s Nor’easter from 9 members to 5, Slow Six have lost an orchestral grandness but granted themselves enough time to flesh out melodies into unexpected, full-bodied passages (try “Because Together We Resonate”). Overall, a perfect mix of electro-acoustics, neo-classical strings, and old-fashioned loud guitar.
