Rhian Sheehan, hailing all the way from Wellington, New Zealand, calls his carefully developed collection Standing in Silence “cinematic electronica.” The thing is, he couldn’t be more spot on. Just as Bibio proved earlier this year that he could vignette the compost, Sheehan dares the listener to stand in silence rather than sing his praises right after listening to the album. He channels chimes and piano on songs like “Part 8″ and liquid ambience on others like “Part 4.” Each of the album’s 14 parts capture the elegant fury of synchronous musical arrangements like a snowglobe contains flurrying pieces in a semblance of beauty and order. Listening to Standing in Silence is akin to sitting in a theatre and discovering, slowly, that instead, you are the main character.
