CODES IN THE CLOUDS MYSPACE / ERASED TAPES OFFICIAL SITE
We shamelessly cranked the volume up for this edition of the Record of the Week. Glitchy electronica and fragile film scores have lived large this summer, but Dartford, U.K.’s Codes in the Clouds have shattered the gentle breezes with reverberating guitars and sent volleys of rocketing drums earthbound, cratering the honeyed meadows we’ve been dawdling in and leaving them an unending, lifeless wasteland. Paper Canyon is the debut from the British outfit, however they hammer out dynamic songs just as well as the exalted post-rock legends. “Don’t Go Awash in This Digital Landscape” brings a bright piano into the mayhem, while “We Anchor in Hope” heightens the tension of the album with an ethereal vocal sample. We’ll be dressing our wounds and rebuilding our infrastructure for months. Let Codes in the Clouds massacre you with a free track from the nowlikephotographs podcast.
